God is working in Chicago. Last Sunday evening, Club 180 hosted a potluck for our students. Trained and approved mentors and volunteers prepared food and desserts for 16 boys between the ages 9 to 12. We prayed that God would bring us young men to attend this event. Many young men committed to attend this event, but when the time came the room was empty. It was very depressing to see this room, void of students
After a deep personal prayer and intense intercession for 2 MINUTES, I asked one of our mentors, Jeff, to drive me around the neighborhood. We invited students who we saw at the local playground to come eat, have fun, and learn about God. Our church has two basketball courts and a spacious parking lot where students can come to hang out. We encouraged them to play there. Eight boys and a girl decided to come for a free dinner and a lesson from the Word of God. I love the fact that students in rough areas of Chicago neighborhoods still hold the understanding to have honor and respect for a pastor. I thank God that in the African American community we still treasure that title.
Club 180 welcomed these precious and energetic students to our church and blessed them with a short impromptu bible study. God amazingly used these students to move my heart and energize my soul. It all happened because our church has been in the neighborhood for over ten years. Many students are familiar with Pastor Brooks because he has embedded himself into this community. New Beginnings Church had created a legacy of faithfulness and compassion in the neighborhood. God used the reputation of the church to lay the foundation for this wonderful opportunity to minister! What a blessing!
God is very active at Chicago’s south side neighborhoods. Club 180 is growing. Last night, The Refuge at New Beginnings Church had a 140 teenagers in attendance. In addition, I was given the opportunity to preach the gospel to dozens of 4th-6th graders this past Wednesday at By the Hand Club for Kids - Englewood site. God’s presence is evident.Thank you for your prayers.
